Dear readers,

2009 is nearly coming to an end and it marks the operating success of FMDS for the fourth year. 2009 was largely devoted to strengthening FMDS’ three core fundamental pillars – Academic Excellence, Administrative Efficiency & Brand Superiority.

Where academic excellence is concerned, FMDS expanded our pool of experienced lecturing staffs who are equipped with FMDS brand of teaching methodologies.  In addition, the incorporation of design management module and the ‘Whole Brain’ teaching framework into the mainstream design curriculum has proven to be successful. This is evident in the increase in the number of business spin-offs from our graduates.

These improvement efforts are constantly evolving and periodically reviewed to ensure all students are taught and prepared for future career or business challenges.

On the administration front, student welfare and DesignPreneurs mentorship programmes headed by David Tan, Head of Design Management, and I were set in place. At this juncture, it provides assistance to a few of the design enterprises which were recently established by FMDS graduates.

Finally, while brand building is an ongoing process, several inroads had been made in the regional markets. Fronted by Don Chua, Daniel Kok, Cedric Choy and Marconi, they have established several key important links with likeminded education

providers, agents and industry practitioners. These connections pave the way for FMDS’ future growth in the region.

To all readers, here is a recap of some significant milestones which I am pleased to share.

February
• Feb 11 marks the second year of operations in our very own heritage conserved building, located in the heart of Chinatown. Aside from being a proud owner to the property, the ownership of a piece of the heritage history has given the staff and students a keener sense of self-belonging and satisfaction.
