Selecting Design As a Profession
Design Profession Enjoys Wider Appeal
Graphic design is widely regarded as visual communication, which is usually transmitted online or through mass media. A designer’s profession is often one that is admired and desired, perhaps due to the fact that design work conveyed through these medium, on top of the self gratification and recognition gained from the work itself, creates an appeal that adds to the already glamorous perception attributed to most designers. Conceptualising creative ideas while working in a stimulating, non-restrictive environment are all part and parcel of this profession.
Why Design Education?
Despite the fact that an education in design often attracts young adults, it is open to anyone who intends to explore their creative talent. As design is often subjective, developing a good design sense is vital, and a much needed and sought after skill in the job market.
The Singapore Education Services, a subsidiary of the Singapore Tourism Board, has been quite aggressive in marketing Singapore as an educational hub to attract many more foreign students to choose Singapore as their preferred city for further studies.
Given Singapore’s initiative to position herself as a successful creative media hub throughout Asia, interest in design education has grown significantly.
