FMDS Student Made Good with FM

Upon first meeting this Assistant Art Director, one would not have guessed that, beneath his humble and well-mannered nature lies a professional confidence that is hard found anywhere else.

Having worked at both the Lancer Design and Mint Editions studios under the First Media Group, this is one creative spark that never ceases to instil a robust flavour of dynamism into his various works. A look at his earlier days would reveal a truly interesting and inspiring fact — that his confidence today is the result of an early exposure to the holistic cultivation at the First Media Design School.

Beyond the years, beyond the work and beyond his creativity, however, Edmond has these words to share to aspiring designers and design enthusiasts: “No matter the path you take, there is no escaping the experience — and it is through such experiences that one truly grows to his or her fullest potential in the design industry.”

Note: Edmond Ng graduated from FMDS with a Diploma in Graphic Design in June 2006. He spent three months’ in an internship with Lancer Design Studio and was subsequently employed as a full time junior designer with Mint Editions. Edmond has worked his way up to become an Assistant Art Director, reporting directly to the Creative Director in Mint Editions (Singapore), a studio under the FM Group.

First of all, I want to thank you for what you have taught me so far. You’ve really made me change the way I think and look at things. There were also things that I’ve learnt which I would not have picked up in school. I’ve learnt to do more in-depth research before embarking on a project, tracing back all the way to the origins of the product etc. By adding the thinking concept into our works, I believe it will help us to execute our works in an orderly manner. Planning is equally important too. I have learnt to plan the future and think backwards, and then work my way up again. It helps me to see what’s ahead of me and makes it easier for me to work towards my achievement step by step. I also learnt the importance of knowing my competitors well before even attempting to compete with them. By doing so, I already know the competitor’s standards and it becomes easier to beat them. You have also taught me to think about what will happen after I choose to do something, what impact the decision will have, and what is the legacy I will or want to leave behind.
